Dr. William A. Henk, Dean, School of EducationDr. William A. Henk, dean of the School of Education, joined Marquette in 2004.

Previously, he was a professor of education and chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Henk joined Pennsylvania State University’s Capital College in Harrisburg as an assistant professor of education and reading in 1983 and became an associate professor in 1989. He became a full professor in 1992 and was also named director of the School of Behavioral Sciences and Education later that year. He joined SIUC in August 2001.

Earlier, Henk led efforts to correct reading difficulties among public-school age students as director of a reading clinic at West Virginia University in Morgantown and was an elementary school reading specialist in Corry, Pa.

He has also served as an affiliate associate professor of pediatrics at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center at the Penn State College of Medicine, director of the Whitaker Multimedia Development Center at Capital College, and was an assistant professor of reading education at the University of Georgia.

Henk specializes in reading and language studies. His research interests include reader and writer self-perceptions, literacy observation and supervision and neuropsychology of reading.

Henk has made numerous presentations as well as published extensively. He has served on several editorial review boards and university governance and service groups.

Among his awards are the College Reading Association Service Award (2003), the Edinboro University Outstanding Alumni Award (2000), the Excellence in Research Award from Capital College (2000) and the Outstanding Teacher Award from Capital College (1991).

Henk earned a bachelor of science in secondary education and a master of education degree in reading from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1975 and 1976, respectively. He earned a doctor of education degree from West Virginia University in 1982.

Lobb has taught orthodontics as an associate professor at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, and at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

He has also held staff appointments at H.H. Williams Memorial Hospital, the University of Alberta Hospital and the Izaak Walton Killam Children's Hospital. Lobb has practiced as a general dentist in the Northwest Territories and in Edmonton. He also practiced as an orthodontist in Edmonton and Halifax.

Lobb has a certificate from the National Dental Examining Board of Canada and is licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin.

Lobb received his pre-dental education at Notre Dame University in Nelson, British Columbia, and the University of Calgary from 1970-72 and received his D.D.S. from the University of Alberta in Edmonton in 1977.

He completed a rotating dental internship at the University Hospital in Edmonton and received a master's degree in orthodontics from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1981.
