Rev. James P. Flaherty, S.J., Arts '78, was elected to the Marquette University Board of Trustees in 2005. He is the rector of the Marquette University Jesuit Community and adjunct assistant professor of philosophy at Marquette. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1979 and was ordained a priest in 1992.
Since his ordination, he has served as assistant pastor of St. Patrick's Parish in Milwaukee as well as associate director of University Ministry at Marquette.
After completing his doctoral degree in philosophy at the New School for Social Research in 2003, he served as assistant professor of philosophy on the faculty of Marquette University where he published articles in scholarly journals such as The Modern Schoolman and International Philosophical Quarterly.
He serves on the boards of Marquette University High School and the Jesuit Retreat House in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Father Flaherty regularly directs and preaches retreats at Jesuit retreat houses.
During his Jesuit formation he was a member of the faculty and assistant principal for academics at Creighton Preparatory High School in Omaha, Neb.
