Highlight of the Week

The focus on the Interchange Project has shifted from demolition to construction. The placement of large steel beams will require changes in both local streets and freeway closures. Due to the size of the beams and the height of their placement, overnight closures will run into daylight hours. Until all beams are placed, closures will be more frequent and will occur on main portions of city streets and freeway sections.
Much of this work is planned to take place over the next 13 weekends as well as a few evenings. These operations are extremely delicate and weather sensitive. It is the contractors’ goal to get most of the remaining beams placed before cold and windy weather sets in. This will allow for other, less weather-related work to occur over the coming winter. As the project approaches completion, deadlines become more and more critical to the success of finishing on time.
Westbound Michigan/ Tory Hill/ Clybourn is now open. Eastbound Clybourn will remain closed to through traffic at 16th Street until October 2007. Right turn only at 11th Street continues.
The Wisconsin State Fair begins on Thursday, August 2, and runs until Sunday, August 12. Expect morning and evening delays on both eastbound and westbound I-94 around 84th Street.

Piles will be driven north of Tory Hill and east of 11th Street for the new southbound I-43 bridge over Tory Hill. These will be the last pilings to be driven north of Tory Hill!
Daytime pile driving and demolition work continues south of Tory Hill on southbound portions of I-43.
Daytime activities will continue west of Straz Tower for at least another week on the ramp that transitions from eastbound I-94 to northbound I-43.
Night deck pours and/or beam installation will occur south of Straz Tower from Monday, July 31, through Sunday, August 5.

Tory Hill/ Clybourn is partially open from 10th to 16th streets with a single westbound lane ONLY in the eastbound roadway; eastbound is closed from 16th to 13th Streets.
St Paul is closed in both directions from 5th to 13th Streets on the following dates:

Friday, August 3, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Saturday, August 4, all day
Sunday, August 5, all day
Monday, August 6, until 6 a.m.

Canal Street is open with no scheduled closures.
Wisconsin Avenue RESTRICTIONS
- Restricted to a single eastbound lane between 19th and 20th streets.
- Westbound traffic between 4th and 10th streets has temporarily moved into the eastbound roadway.
- No left turn for eastbound traffic at 11th Street until later in August.
20th Street from Highland to North Avenue is restricted to a single southbound lane due to paving.
Cherry Street between 2nd Street and King Drive is closed in both directions.
The north sidewalk on Wisconsin Avenue between 10th and 12th streets is now open.
9th Street is closed at Wisconsin Avenue. 9th Street is open from Wells, but if you enter at Wells you will have to turn around and exit to Wells; there is no through passage to Wisconsin Avenue.

There are no freeway or ramp closures scheduled this week!
There will be various Interchange nighttime lane and daytime maintenance restrictions all week on I-794, I-43 and I-94.
