Carrianne’s educational background has given her a great appreciation for the quality of her experience at Marquette.
In addition to benefiting from the depth of learning Marquette offers, she especially appreciates the way in which Marquette faculty in general, and her advisers in particular, have taken an interest in nurturing her as a scholar and as a person.
She states, “Marquette has been like no other university I’ve attended in terms of its pursuit of developing people not just as learners, but also as well-rounded people and active participants in their professional fields and their communities. Marquette faculty have provided context and guidance for my research of online education, helping me to investigate fundamental issues in the burgeoning use of technology in education. This research not only adds to the body of knowledge of how people teach and learn using technology, but also is preparing me for the work I will do when I join the professoriate after earning my degree.”
Carrianne credits Arthur J. Schmitt and the Arthur J. Schmitt Foundation for making a critical difference in the quality of her work and her life:
“In addition to allowing me to pursue my research with a focus I would not have been afforded without this support, it has also given me many opportunities for service and professional development I would have otherwise been unable to pursue. Arthur J. Schmitt has been an inspiration to me, and being a Schmitt fellow has strengthened my dedication and renewed my commitment to developing as a well-rounded, insightful and astute scholar and leader.”
