Majoring in this field seems like “a natural” for me because I have always wanted to pursue a career in the health/medical profession. Pursuing a degree in the Biomedical Sciences introduces me to a wide range of courses; one that interests me most is anatomy.

But for me, my academic experience at Marquette is more than taking classes I enjoy. I know that I am working towards my goal to help the community and give back as a health care professional. And the Hearst Foundation is helping me reach my goal.
By being awarded the Hearst Scholarship, I feel as if a huge burden has been lifted off me. Because of my family’s financial situation, I was not sure whether I could afford an education at Marquette. Nevertheless, knowing the reputation of the university, I was driven to do whatever it took to pursue my dream and get my education at Marquette. Before receiving the Hearst Scholarship, I had pulled as many strings as I could to try to finance my education. The Hearst award really means a lot to me as it has made it easier to pay for school. I feel honored that out of so many deserving students, I am lucky enough to be a Hearst Scholar.
As a result, I have less stress now regarding financial issues and am able to concentrate more on my classes. To me, being a Hearst Scholarship recipient means that all the effort and hard work I have put into my education so far has paid off. This motivates me to continue being a determined, goal-oriented individual. Because of the generosity of the Hearst Foundation, I am now certain that I can further my career goals without the fear of wondering if I can afford an education to achieve them.
